An FBI Identity History Summary, commonly known as an FBI background check or criminal history report, is an official record issued by the Federal Bureau of Investigation based on an individual's fingerprints. It contains information about arrests and related criminal history reported to the FBI by federal, state, and local agencies. If no criminal history is found, the FBI issues a response indicating that no record was identified.
This report is commonly requested for immigration, residency, international employment, visa applications, and other purposes requiring a federal criminal background check. Depending on the destination country, the document may also require an apostille or certified translation.
Standard requests submitted directly to the FBI generally take 12-14 weeks to process, particularly when fingerprints are mailed. Florida Translate offers expedited processing through an FBI-approved channeling service, which allows eligible applicants to receive their results within 2-24 hours.*
*Channeling services are available only to U.S. citizens and lawful permanent residents (green card holders). Processing times may vary depending on the submission method and FBI processing requirements.
